I am delighted to say that you and your organisation have provided for Doug in a way that has always met my hopes and has often exceeded them. Your team has managed to provide him with a varied lifestyle. Doug doesn’t like watching much television and sitting around, so it’s good to hear that he attends gyms, bowling, and social activities with the other houses. Dennis, his primary carer, gets a special mention for bringing Doug up to Scotland on the train regularly. Doug then stays with me for his holidays before Dennis collects him again from Scotland. I am also delighted to hear that Doug gets plenty of exercise on his bike rides and walks around Stevenage and that he now attends and helps out at a local garden centre for two mornings a week. Like many Downs people, Doug likes his food! Fran and I have encouraged him to choose recipes from the ‘BBC Easycook magazine’. He then buys the ingredients and, with our help, cooks some delicious meals. I understand that he gets similar support from staff at his service so they all do the same activities. All in all, he is well settled at Fortis Care, and his life has been significantly enhanced there as a result of your staff’s work with him. 'Written by family member'

My life is so different now since moving to Fortis Care, I have independence, freedom and manage my own money which I didn’t do before. I have my own television, own fridge and choose and cook my own meals which I enjoy to do. In my old placement I wasn’t allowed to choose my own meals and was not allowed to cook. I do my own clothes washing and get my own clothes back whereas before I would not get the right clothes back. I plan my own days and activities, I enjoy going to Jackie’s drop in. I am happy now, I am closer to my mum and family and am able to go visit often which I enjoy. The staff here are kinder and more helpful and I feel as if I can tell them if I have any problems as I trust them all. I really want to stay here forever, I would be very upset if I had to move, I am really looking forward to my first Christmas here.

My Experiences with Fortis Care has been wonderful. Conor helped me in filling in forms and helped me in getting a job at Primark. I met all the directors and my experience with them and Conor and Tasnima and the support staff has been brilliant. I went and visited lots of places in London. I think Fortis Care has been the most promising care team for me and I have had exceptionally good experiences with them. If I ever have problems or things worrying me I can look upon Fortis Care team as reliable and trustworthy people. Myself and my family have plenty of respect for Fortis Care and I think Fortis Care are excellent role models in society.”

I have been here the longest. Since I moved in it has got bigger for more people to move in. The house I live in is for special needs. I am at Fortis Care because I have ADHD and my family wanted me out forever but now I feel comfortable in my new environment with my staff team. I’m glad that my staff team have made me a better man than I once was. I like it at the house.

I feel I have come a long way since then. I am now eating and drinking better than I was before. I am taking better care of myself in general. I have learnt how to take care of my home and complete household tasks. I have a key worker, and we regularly get together and plan goals of what I want to achieve. I had pretty bad anxiety when I moved in, although this is now improving. I recently achieved my goal of visiting Harry Potter World. I have also been on many holidays. I am very happy here!

She had previously been on a supported living programme which gave her an excellent introduction to all aspects of leaving home and living independently. From then, my daughter moved into a shared house with the help of Fortis Care. Our experience from the start was one of positivity. The staff made us feel welcome and wanted to do the best for all of us, the path sometimes doesn't run smooth, but the efforts put into making this happen were 100%. We were included in the process, from choosing a house to the moving in date. Since moving in over 3 years ago, my daughter has gained more confidence and the ability to do things to help her independence and give her the life she wants. During the pandemic, staff were supportive in what was an unknown difficult time for everyone. I felt that my daughters' safety was paramount, and this was thanks to the processes and procedures that Fortis Care put into place. Now life is a bit more normal. My daughter is back doing activities she wants to do, go to the gym, and cinema, attend Slimming World, go for walks and do her weekly shopping.
